The historic streets of downtown Gainesville will be filled with fine art, smooth jazz and the delightful aroma of delectable treats as the City of Gainesvilles Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs presents the 27th Annual Downtown Festival & Art Show on Saturday and Sunday, November 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stroll along the streets of downtown Gainesville, from City Hall to the Hippodrome State Theatre, as 250 of the nations top artists display their original oils and acrylics, vibrant watercolors, unique sculptures, dazzling jewelry, decorative ceramics and vivid photography. Artisans will compete for more than $14,000 in cash prizes and $5,000 in purchase awards. With such a diverse array of unique art displayed for sale and competition, the Downtown Festival & Art Show is a great way to begin your holiday shopping. For music lovers, the Festival features continuous entertainment on three stages by local bands, musicians and dance companies. The weekend begins with the Downtown Blues Concert on Friday, November 13 at 7 p.m. at the Downtown Community Plaza presented by the North Central Florida Blues Society. The celebration of music continues all weekend with the Smooth Jazz Concert on Saturday, November 14 at 7 p.m. as the vibrant sounds of smooth jazz fill the air, featuring a variety of well-known national artists. These musical treats are absolutely free and open to the public.
